Considering our Make Work Human company value, countless hours of logged VTO, and thousands of dollars in donations to causes, it’s clear that Dropboxers have a passion for supporting each other and doing work that matters beyond our jobs. Vikram Singhvi is one of these Dropboxers. He works on the ITS team as the Head of Enterprise Business Application Systems and is also the Product Donation Lead for our Dropbox for Good (DfG) program. We spoke with him about DfG, their recent efforts, and the causes he’s most passionate about.

Tell us a bit about your day job at Dropbox.

I work in ITS, and manage the Enterprise Business Applications that consists of Sales and Marketing System, Finance System, People and Legal tools and technology. We also support Business Intelligence projects for various teams.

What motivated you to get so involved with Dropbox for Good (DfG) at Dropbox?

Ever since joining Dropbox in 2017, I have always been super impressed with the energy and emphasis that the company puts in the DfG program and in the gratitude drive. This is unparalleled — not many other companies do this. Hence, joining DfG was the easiest way to fulfill my desire to make a meaningful contribution to the community, and to inspire other teammates to do so too. In early 2020, I signed up to be a Product Donation Lead to help train nonprofits on Dropbox products. This role also meant encouraging Dropboxers to use their product donation benefit; every full-time Dropboxer can donate a free Dropbox Business account with up to 20 licenses in perpetuity to one nonprofit of their choice annually.

What DfG project are you most proud of?

It’s very difficult to point out any single one. Almost all the projects DfG has conducted so far have been great. However, what inspires me the most is the passion and commitment behind each program. Each team member is super dedicated and always willing to go the extra mile in the pursuit of making an impact. I feel honored and proud to be a part of such a team.

Fill in the blank: The world needs more _____.

…empathy, care, and kindness for each other.

What charitable causes are you most passionate about?

At a broader level, I am passionate about:

  • eradicating hunger
  • promoting equality
  • eradicating illiteracy from people of all age groups, and
  • the technology gap, a fast-emerging new issue

These are some very basic issues, but are yet to be addressed in several parts of the world. I recently got involved to bring awareness and fundraising support to India’s COVID-19 relief efforts. It started with looking for funding to procure oxygen generators, and most recently, I moderated Asians@ and Social Impact’s lunch and learn session with CARE India to get the latest updates about India’s recovery efforts.

If you could solve any problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Food for all. We have enough in the world that no one should sleep hungry or die due to hunger. This is a very basic but a fundamental need, and in my view, leads to many other larger issues. If people have enough to eat and survive, they won’t get engaged in crime, disparity, hatred, and exploitation, and rather focus on creativity to make the world a better place to live.

What’s giving you hope for the future?

We’re in the 21st century, which essentially means that human beings have survived the ups and downs of the last 20 centuries. We will continue to evolve, continue to innovate and find solutions to the problems, and the world will also survive this pandemic.
